About Me
Creativity and the arts have always been a part of my life; and my professional journey in the creative field has been a long, winding road. Over the years I have explored different mediums to find what best suits me. Drawing, photography, film making, and sculpture have all played a role, but it was after completing a degree in Anthropology that I started to understand my real captivation – the human response to art. This is when I found my true path! I am very interested in how people interact with art, how it makes them feel, and how people move in and around space. This led me to interior design, where I’ve spent the last 10+ years designing spaces driven by the people who use them, while using art and furniture design elements to enhance the end result.
Furniture Design
Born from a lack of school furniture solutions for Maker Space and NexGen learning spaces, I began to think about how multifunctional furniture could extend the learning environment. In working with numerous teachers, I was seeing too many learning moments lost due to the physical limitations of the furniture available. All my furniture design focuses on finding the balance between three key elements: how each piece extends the learning environment, durability, and design. Over the course of 5+ years and with numerous collaboration partners, I have designed two furniture pieces which were recognized as Best in Show for Innovation, created an entire furniture line, and have sold over 6,000 units in the last year alone.
With numerous prototypes currently in progress, Buehring Studios has a proven track record of envisioning the creative opportunities that furniture can offer, backed by the real-time solutions currently being enjoyed in classrooms across the country.
Fine Art
It all started with some inspiration from bottle caps and a coalition of family and friends who helped me to collect more than 7,500. With that basic premise in place, my “eureka” moment came when I was viewing a Van Gogh piece, admiring the rich texture and color variation. I started to connect each brush stroke to a single bottle cap. Having always been captivated by Van Gogh’s Starry Night, I felt its movement and color palette would be the perfect piece.
All the caps in Recycled Night, over 7,500 in all, are 100% unmodified and recycled. Each cap creates its own shape and form, which in turn creates a unique immersive viewing experience like no other. While moving around the piece you will notice how it comes to life; it changes shape in front of your eyes as light reflects off the caps in different ways, highlighting different colors and forms. It’s as if you were sitting next to Van Gogh while he was painting! Recycled Night was publicly viewed for over 5 years and won a California State Fair Fine Art Award.
Since that first piece, numerous commissioned and fully customizable works of art have been created, from private works of art to corporate logos, and business décor. Each piece is designed to meet any scale or look. Provide your own caps from your team, event, or community. Nothing starts a conversation like trying to find your caps in such an immersive work of art!
Design
With over 10 years of professional experience in Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Restaurant, and Residential design I can truly say I love design and the creative process. I see each project as a new and exciting collaborative experience where we create a space that uniquely reflects you. We work together to find personal design solutions which enhance functional space based on your project needs while also staying within budget. Design is about more than just wall locations and Buehring Studios strives to incorporate elements such as lighting, art, signage, and furniture designs to complete the whole designed environment.
My design approach offers a unique balance of anthropology, artistic design language, and creativity, but only truly comes alive through a collaborative process with clients.
